Selected Experience

AIFC Court and international arbitration

  • Representing a major Kazakhstani IT company in CIETAC arbitration arising from a supply agreement, with claims exceeding USD 500,000.
  • Representing a major Kazakhstani IT company before the AIFC Court in small claims proceedings arising from an employment dispute. The claims against the client were dismissed in full.
  • Assisting a client in international arbitration concerning the recovery of damages under an option agreement.
  • Advising a client before the AIFC Court in a claim for damages arising from trading operations.

Legal opinions

  • Preparing legal opinions on the recognition and enforcement of foreign arbitral awards, as well as on the prospects of court and arbitration proceedings in Kazakhstan and international arbitration.

Major commercial disputes

  • Representing a client in a dispute concerning the recovery of debt under a brokerage services agreement.
  • Representing a major Kazakhstani IT company in a dispute with a bad-faith counterparty. More than KZT 20 million was recovered in favour of the client, and equipment worth approximately KZT 70 million was returned.
  • Representing a company in a dispute with a local executive authority involving claims exceeding KZT 490 million, including obtaining interim measures in the form of attachment of bank accounts and property.
  • Representing a client in a dispute with one of Kazakhstan’s leading audit firms. Approximately USD 20,000 was recovered in favour of the client.

Public-private partnership and disputes with state authorities

  • Representing a major Kazakhstani IT company in a dispute with a local executive authority under a PPP project involving claims of approximately KZT 1.6 billion. The court refused to award approximately KZT 1.5 billion and reduced the amount recovered to KZT 82 million.
  • Representing a major Kazakhstani IT company in a dispute with a local executive authority under a PPP project involving claims of approximately KZT 393 million. The court reduced the claims to KZT 40 million.
  • Defending a major Kazakhstani IT company against a claim by a state authority seeking to declare the company an unfair participant in public procurement. The claim was dismissed in full.

Corporate disputes

  • Representing a participant in a medical clinic in a corporate conflict with foreign co-founders, involving related corporate, employment and criminal proceedings.
