TKL Scholarship Contest Rules for Law Students for Academic Years of 2022-2023
- 1.These rules shall govern the basic requirements to processing applications and awarding scholarships by Tukulov & Kassilgov Litigation LLP (the “Scholarship Founder”) for contest participants for academic years of 2022-2023, as detailed below (the “Contest”). Any Contest-related issue not covered by these rules shall be resolved at the sole discretion of the Scholarship Founder.
- 2.To become a participant in the Contest, an applicant shall meet all of the following criteria:
- (1)Be a citizen of the Republic of Kazakhstan (the “Kazakhstan”) and a member of a two-person team of the same higher education institution;
- (2)Be a student of a Law Faculty of the Kazakhstan higher education institutions; and
- (3)Have GPA 3.0 or higher (a “Participant”).
- 3.Two-member teams shall be admitted to the Contest. No change of team members shall be allowed until the end of the Contest. To participate in the Contest, a Participant shall sign and submit his/her application at scholarship@tkl.kz, click here for the form of application. The application shall specify the team name and members.
- 4.The Scholarship Founder shall award the following scholarships:
- (1)First Place, two scholarships (for one team) of KZT 150,000 per month for a nine-month period;
- (2)Second Place, two scholarships (for one team) of KZT 100,000 per month for a nine-month period; and
- (3)Third Place, two scholarships (for one team) of KZT 50,000 per month for a nine-month period;
- (4)Other prizes, at the discretion of the Scholarship Founder.
- 5.The Contest shall be held in two stages:
- (1)Draft written submissions on a case given (claim/response), pre-qualification; and
- (2)Based on the pre-qualification results, the qualified teams participate in a game court hearing on 31 March 2023 in KIMEP University (Almaty).
Upon submission of a written application, as referred to in paragraph 3 above, each team will receive a confirmation of registration as well as the details of facts of a case (case study). Within the time limit specified in paragraph 7 below, the Participants shall prepare their written submissions (for a claimant or a respondent, as instructed by the Scholarship Founder). Written submissions shall meet the requirements of the civil procedure laws of the Republic of Kazakhstan and do not exceed ten sheets of printed text in Times New Roman 12, indentation 1.15. Any part of the text beyond the said limits will not be reviewed. The Participants shall not deviate from the facts of their case or invent new facts.
- 6.When examining the written submissions, the Scholarship Founder will consider the following:
- (1)Text literacy;
- (2)Narration simplicity;
- (3)Document structure;
- (4)Legal reasoning and attention to detail: facts of a case shall be presented such that neither party is knowingly superior to the other;
- (5)Presentation.
- 7.Applicable deadlines:
- (1)Accepting applications, by 31 January 2023;
- (2)Filing written submissions, by 24 February 2023;
- (3)Pre-qualification for stage 2, until 13 March 2023;
- (4)Announcing winners, on 31 March 2023.
- 8.The Scholarship Founder does not guarantee awarding a scholarship to Participants. A scholarship may be paid by a third party, at the discretion of the Scholarship Founder. By submitting an application for the Contest, a Participant agrees not to bring any claim against the Scholarship Founder or third parties in relation to the Contest. The Participants undertake to refrain from any negative public statement concerning the Scholarship Founder, its partners, employees, contractors or other persons engaged for the Contest.
